Hi!  I’m Barb and I’m a Quilter.  “Hi, Barb.”  Quilting is a huge addiction.  All quilters understand that.  It takes over your home and your life.  I am now a blogger too.  My friends made me do it.  They’ve been after me a long time and I finally succumbed.   I have a feeling it could take over my home and my life too!

The banner picture on my blog is my Quilting Bee, Just Say Sew.  We’ve been quilting together for about 18 years.  The picture is at our April 2010 Retreat in Mt. Calm, Texas.  Some of us are even in our pajamas – we took the picture far enough away that you couldn’t tell….. or the fact that most of us don’t have any makeup on.  That’s what our retreats are all about.  Quilting, eating and back to nature.  In the midst of beautiful wildflowers!

I also love cats.  Quilts and cats go together in my book.  And in my blog.  You’ve met Boo and Miss Kitty, my dear hubby’s cat.  He brought her home with him after a 14 month job in Tulsa. Both of them have graduated to Heaven – I hope they are having a fabulous time there!  Now we have dear Pappy who is such a hoot!  His antics have filled my blog pages with loads of videos of his silliness.  And dear sweet Panda, the kitty who wishes she lived in an only cat household and wishes Pappy would just leave her alone.  Then there is Pebbles too.  Adopted from our backyard feral community in the summer of 2016.  She’s a cutie but she still runs and hides whenever she hears a strange voice in the house.  And she barely tolerates us petting or scratching her.  It’s a good thing she’s cute or she might have ended up back in the yard with her siblings!  Ha! And 3 of her siblings (actually one is a cousin and probably a half brother – it’s complicated) are still around and come regularly for meals on our back deck.  It’s a cat paradise at our house!

I hope that you enjoy my blog!

Melissa Murray is my daughter-in-law and she sent me a link to your blog. I’m a quilter, a pilot, and a cat lover. We have 4 cats, but one of them, Junior is a big black cat who also loves to lay on my quilts-in-progress. We’ve been to Oshkosh, we have a motor home, and I’m chair of my Quilter’s Guild quilt show this year. Seems like we have a lot in common. However, I live in North Carolina, not Texas. Next time we visit Rodney and Melissa, we’ll try to look you up. Just wanted you to know that I love your blog! By the way, this is the first time I’ve ever posted to a blog. Kandy Murray

Thanks for posting your blog URL on the DJ list. I enjoyed reading it and will check back periodically to see what you quilting chickies are up to. Sounds like you have ‘sum fun’ down there in TX… I’m in WA. Keep up the good work… great blog.

I’m going to check the “Send me site updates” box and see if that helps….?

    Hey Barb,
I was just browsing your pictures on your blog and noticed the scarf that Nancy was holding up. Any chance you have the pattern to this? Just wondering if you would be willing to share. Just let me know at the TVQG meeting this week! Thanks!

Hi, Barb! I met you a few months ago at Franklin Park when we were both touring. Enjoyed the lunch and visit with you, albeit brief. I know I’m going to enjoy reading your blog! Life has been too crazy lately. But I want to start sewing again. Alas, I love quilts, have a few, but may NEVER find enough time for the fabulous endeavor of quilting. No, I first need to do some quickie home decorating-type sewing such as curtains and throw pillows. My dressmaking shears and pinking shears are all dull! I’ve had the hardest time trying to find a reputable person or place to take them to for sharpening and then thought of you–surely you and/or your fellow quilters have some recommendations in this area??? Thanks for any help, including what a reasonable price range is (as I have a lot of scissors)!

Greetings from Boston! I am enjoying your blog. I am also an rabid quilter and baseball fan. In fact, your Rangers are currently visiting my Red Sox. I must admit that if I did not love my Sox so much, I would love the Rangers! Was just at a game in Boston and watched Josh Hamilton spend pre-game time signing and taking photos with fans. Good guy. Enjoy the rest of the season! Will hope our boys of summer meet up in October!
If you would like to see my baseball themed quilts, please check out my blog on WordPress.

  12. Hi Barb, it’s Shawn Frazier! I love your pics of our show!! I was not able to take a lot of pics of the ballroom itself, and it does look amazing! (I was a little busy, as you may know!) Would you be able to share those pics with me, so that I can post them on our BCQG Facebook and maybe the HCC facebook to sort of show off the venue? It really did look beautiful and I’d love to share it!
Thanks so much, I’m so glad you captured such good pictures!

Hi: I’m just getting back into quilting after retirement. Music has always been my passion. I saw a piano quilt on the internet that referenced justsayinsew.com. Do you have any idea if there is a pattern available for it? It looks fairly easy and a one for my first in many years. I’m also in Texas.

Hey Barb, I’m a member of the Stitchin’ Friends at QD. Trying to locate one of your patterns…..Where are the instructions for your cute little finger pincushion? Thank you so very much.

    Hi Barb
I am in a quilt guild in Hamilton, Missouri, “Twisted Stichers” I am intersted in a quilt I found on your blog, https://justsaysew.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/a-slideshow-of-quilts-20.jpg?w=640&h=539
it looks like a friend ship star with swirls around it, Do you know where I can get a pattern for me?

    Hey Barb,
My Son and Ddil and 2 of my grand-children are coming up to Canada in August for her father’s 60th birthday….she reminded me yesterday that she’s looking forward to a dish she misses–cheese curds, french fries and some kind of brown gravy. The cheese curds she’s found here aren’t “squeaky” enough. Have you had this delicacy yet. I’d love to hear your take on the dish.

  18. Hi Barb
Is there any chance of getting private lessons on the how-to of Inklingo? I finally retired last year and have time for learning new things and I find I don’t do well with trying to learn it by reading and doing.
I think my brain decided that retirement meant “shut down” and I’m trying to remind it that it’s okay to think. 8’D I’ll come to you or Quilters Dream or my house or wherever; just tell me what to bring!

Looking for the New Mexico quilt pattern picture posted in 2012….the one with the ZIA on lower left hand corner…is the pattern for sale? Thanks

    • Barb says:

I did lots of posts in 2012, Elizabeth. Can you comment right on the post? I MIGHT be able to help with finding a pattern, but with this description only I have no idea what quilt you are referencing.

      • Vicky T says:

I’m thinking I’m avoiding work because I looked it up! February 22, 2012. It’s the pictures of the Bear Creek Show that year and the Chairman’s Challenge quilts were the States. New Mexico was pretty striking. I’ll let You tell Elizabeth about these kind of things. ;’D

  20. Kandy says:

I haven’t seen any posts from you lately. I don’t know if you haven’t been posting, or I just haven’t been getting them. I really enjoyed your trips to Canada and your kitty pictures. Please don’t give up blogging. I really enjoy following you. In fact, you are just about the only person I do follow, since I’m also a quilter and a cat lover.

Hi Barb…just left comment on the New Mexico quilt I was looking at….the post on Pinterest was Feb 12-2012
